What a splendid way to discover Porto. The cars are beautiful and well kept. The trip is not very long and the speed easy so that you have time to discover the full beauty of the historical heart of the city. This tram is very much used by tourists to discover the town but also by the inhabitants who want to avoid the steep slopes of Porto.

Tram 22 & 18 : You may not like trams’rattles and squeaks and be tempted to give them a miss. Don’t. This line has since 1895 been criss crossing through some of the most iconic parts of Porto. At « Carmo » take line 18 and stop at the gardens of the "Palacio do Cristal" (Cristal palace) or continue on line 1 (stop M. Carro Eléctrico) direction Foz do Douro for a tranquil barefoot walk on the beach along the Atlantic ocean.

Tram 1 : "Infante-Passeio Alegre", follows the river Douro to reach Foz do Douro. This trip in an authentic charming tram is full of romance and a great way to discover in passing the Solar do vinho do porto (the wine institute), the Museo Carro Electrico and some splendid buildings and landscapes. A tram comes along every twenty minutes or so and they run between 9 in the morning to 5 in the afternoon.

You can also reach Foz do Douro by bus, so take it easy.
